9. Stroll in the "Petite Toscane"

" La Petite Toscane" is a nickname often given to Beaujolais.
Visitors to the south of the territory will be surprised by the hilly landscapes punctuated by villages in the middle of the vineyards. Built using Golden Stones, this ochre limestone is symbolic of the southern Beaujolais region.
Castles, chapels, low walls, houses, everything is a unity of colours. These rocks wonderfully reflect the light and illuminate the villages of southern Beaujolais.
The villages are scattered around giving the illusion that a whole section of Toscane has lost its way between the Saône and the Loire.

5. Stroll through the vineyards

These hills and valleys dotted with vineyards give it a charm. At the foothills of the Massif-Central, geological changes have given it unique and sublime landscapes, making Beaujolais one of the most beautiful areas for hiking.
You will be enchanted by the diversity of Beaujolais vineyards stretching over more than 140 kms along the Wine Routes. This includes gentle vineyards bordering the Pierres Dorées villages in the south, steep hillsides in the centre of the vineyard that have made the name of Beaujolais-Villages famous, and selected parcels of land in the north that produce the Crus du Beaujolais.
In the middle of the vines, you will find a well, a cadole, a winegrower pruning, grape pickers busy working. Beaujolais vineyards are a perfect environment for a getaway for two in any season.

It will be an understatement to say that the people of Beaujolais have a sense of festivity! Beaujolais villages are always lively and bustling all year round. In summer, they become more colourful and lively with festivities. There are many local festivals where everyone is welcome!
Going out in Beaujolais is quite effortless! The schedule is tight! Enjoy a variety of popular festivals celebrating Beaujolais wines, local cuisine, or the simple pleasure of getting together with your family or friends.
The atmosphere is right: festive, warm, passionate. It is simply very Beaujolais.
Are you tempted by the Beaujolais hospitality? You can visit the Chiroubles Terrace during Beaujolez-Vous, the Beaujolais Pierres Dorées night market during Rosé, Nuits d'Été or simply visit our vineyards for an after-work in the midst of the vines.

  • Conscripts Conscripts

4. Marvel at the waves... of conscripts

Conscripts not only in Beaujolais, but also in our neighbours of the Dombes, Bresse and Lyonnais, every purist looks forward to the year! Celebrate your class! It only happens once every 10 years!
Pure Beaujolais tradition and unique in France, Fête des Conscrits(r) was originated in Villefranche-Sur-Saône. From generation to generation, the flame has been passed from one class to another to brighten up the village for a weekend.
Villefranche is a unique institution! The Rue Nationale is completely transformed on the last weekend of January with a wave of conscripts, brass bands, mimosas and cotillions all dressed up in a festive atmosphere.
This runs deep in every person in Beaujolais. Do not be surprised if someone asks you " Which class do you belong to?" your decade will be a true sign of belonging to the Beaujolais region!
You only have to walk through the door of the Conscripts Museum to understand the magnitude of the event, which has been going on for more than 140 years!

6. Climbing the peaks of Beaujolais

Climb the summits to find the most beautiful panoramas beyond the Beaujolais, climb to the roof of the Rhône department and enjoy a superb view of Mont-Blanc when the weather is clear. After all, the reward you get to the top of Mont-Brouilly is the valley itself with its winding roads that take you from a sloping vineyard to a road bordering Douglas.

7. Taste and endorse the Beaujolais mâchon

Bread from the local baker, wine from the house, cheese from the farm next door, home-made charcuterie or from a butcher friend: mâchon is the local snack!
A unique establishment amidst our winegrowers! A simply moment of sociability.
You can make new friends with just a table, a bottle of Beaujolais, local products and a visit to a winegrower.

8. Go in search of hidden treasures

Beaujolais has its treasures to which you must be trained in order to unlock all its secrets and mysteries.
These amazing explorations can lead you to discover Beaujolais legends such as the famous pyramid of the Tour Bourdon in Régnié-Durette, the magnificent Renaissance courtyards hidden in Villefranche-Sur-Saône, the Cadoles in the middle of the vineyards, the picturesque path of the way of the cross of Saint-Joseph, and the mystery of the Morguières basement.
Some of the legends evoke the darkest, perhaps even terrifying or amusing aspects. You may come across the ghost of the white lady at the bend in the road, try to discover the treasure of the Templars at Arginy castle, or try to imagine the mischievous Gargantua coming to Mont Brouilly.
