523 rue Nationale
69400 Villefranche-sur-Saône
This noble residence belonged to the Mignot de Bussy family during the 17th century. Mignot de Bussy acted several times as lieutenant general of the “Baillage de Beaujolais”.
Built by a wealthy Renaissance bourgeois, this mansion subsequently belonged to the Mignot de Bussy family from 1650 to 1745.
The entrance is through a massive door surmounted by a wrought iron fanlight leading to a rib-vaulted driveway. The courtyard features a spiral staircase turret topped by a belvedere and a gallery, which in this case has been glazed over. The entire house has been listed on the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments since 1939.
The family was proud to welcome King Louis XIV for one night on 23 November 1658. Accompanied by his mother Anne of Austria, Mazarin and the Duchess of Orleans, the Sun King stopped off in Villefranche on his way to Lyon. His retinue stayed in various town houses.
This courtyard is not open to the public.
