Château de Drée

  • Curbigny

A classic castle with 17th and 18th century furnishings and with french-style gardens.

Our castle, built in the middle of the 17th century by the Duke of Lesdiguière and governor of the Dauphiné, was above all a hunting lodge. Acquired in the middle of the 18th century by the Count of Drée from whom it was named, it became a classical princely residence that was beautified, extended and restored. It was repurchased by Ghislain Prouvost in 1995 from the Belgian Croy family and was quickly renovated and re-furnished before being opened to visitors. Visitors can discover the stately lifestyle of the old regime It is worth noting that there are about fifteen rooms including kitchens, chapel, living rooms and bedrooms. The 10 hectare french style gardens have been recreated featuring notably a rose garden in the middle of the Charolais countryside. There are numerous outbuildings during the visit such as the stately prison, a dovecote and stables. Don't miss a bathroom. Our castle is called the "little Versailles" of the Brionnais because of its architecture and the gardens.
